What learning do I think is happening here?
At the moment in transition the interest and focus is "All about me". The children are really loving this theme, learning so much about themselves, about their families, and about their pets.
This week I decided to look at the important internal parts of our bodies. The Tamariki were very excited, asking lots of questions and listening intently as we went through the anatomy book, talking about the lungs, heart, liver, stomach and intestines. We had discussions about what each part does in our bodies, and the different parts of each organ that helps them to work. After we knew all our facts, I got out our very cool human torsos. The Tamariki worked in pairs taking turns and providing help and suggestions to one another as they experimented taking the body parts out, then working out how to fit them back into the right place again.
This was a great activity to help the children understand where those parts are in the body and why they are an important part of us. 

Opportunities and possibilities?
Well done Tamariki on your great work learning all about yourselves, you all really love this theme. Maybe next time we could trace around some Tamariki and draw or paint on the different body parts. I wonder what other body parts we could learn about to include on our life size human?
