Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades. It rises in mid winter, and for many maori it heralds the start of a new year. Matariki is made up of seven stars Ururangi, Tupua a rangi, Tupua a nuku, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna a rangi and Matariki.
This week to celebrate Matariki we planned to put on a Roast for our friends and family here at CCQE Pukaki Street. Matariki is all about coming together as one, so we decided to invite some of our friends from our other centre over to have a kai here with us. In our roast meal we had Chicken, Roast Potatoes/Kumara/Pumpkin, Fry Bread and for our babies a mixed vege mash, all brought in by the tamariki from both centres. What an awesome feast we had celebrating together.
