Through our recent research our centre has recognised the value, for the children in our care, to enjoy a stronger “play based learning environment”. This has meant a shift away from more traditional aspects of our programme such as “transition to school” and a greater focus on ensuring the children can enjoy longer blocks of uninterrupted play. This is largely being implemented through invitations and provocations being set up which the children are free to explore if they choose to do so.
Through Invitations a teacher encourages children to explore their own interests and ideas at a deeper level. Teachers use Provocations to provoke new thoughts, ideas, and actions that can help to expand on a thought, project, idea or an interest.
