The tamariki and Teachers at CCQE were invited to attend a formal Powhiri (welcome) onto one of our local marae. We were given morning tea and guided through Ohinemutu village by the Lovely Rangi. She told us lots of special stories and shared so much of her knowledge with us. It was an awesome experience in which some of our tamariki had never experienced before so this was very special.
Prior to our sheduled marae visit we took a practice walk down to the Village. On both trips the tamariki were in awe of their surroundings and thoroughly enjoyed taking the time to look around and see other parts of our community that they may not have encountered before. They had an opportunity to look and watch some geothermal activity as we made our way through the Ohinemutu village. Both trips were very rewarding, rich in culture where we had the opportunity to learn about our wider community and what our backyard has to offer. Both the Tamariki and the Teachers who attended emmersed themselves and embraced our local heritage
Tau ke tamariki ma... you all did such an amazing job and really immersed yourselves into the new environment.
Hopefully soon we can take you all up to visit Te Puia so we can see how the carvings are made and the awesome sight of the Geyser.
